The place is located 4.9 km east of the Wapsipinicon River , a right tributary of the Mississippi . This is about 45 km to the east and forms the border with Illinois . The Wisconsin border runs approximately 85 km north. Calamus is the center of Olive Township in southwest Clinton County.
