Calvin Thürkauf (born June 27, 1997 in Zug ) is a Swiss ice hockey player with a Canadian passport. The striker has been under contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets from the National Hockey League (NHL) since December 2016 and plays for their farm team , the Cleveland Monsters, in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Career
Thürkauf was born in Zug , his father is Canadian. He is a citizen of Switzerland and Canada. In his hometown he went through the youth department of EV Zug , in the 2014/15 season he came to a job for SC Langenthal in the National League B (NLB) thanks to a loan agreement .
In 2015 Thürkauf went to Canada to the Kelowna Rockets , a team from the province of British Columbia that takes part in the game operations of the Western Hockey League (WHL). In the draft of the National Hockey League (NHL) in June 2016, he was selected in the seventh round in 185th position by the Columbus Blue Jackets . However, he continued to play for Kelowna and received a three-year contract from the Blue Jackets in late December 2016.
International
Thürkauf played in the U16, U17, U18 and U20 age groups for the Swiss junior national teams and took part in the U18 Junior World Championships in 2015 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 2016 and 2017 .
Thürkauf made his debut in the senior national team during the 2017/18 season.
