The Cap Finistère is a Ro-Ro - ferry of the French shipping company Brittany Ferries , operating on the routes between Portsmouth and Bilbao and Portsmouth and Santander is used.

history

The ship was built under hull number 355 by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft AG in Kiel . The ship was completed at the beginning of April 2001. On April 5, it was handed over to the Greek shipping company Superfast Ferries and christened in Kiel . The ship, which came into service as the Superfast V , was used in the Adriatic between the Greek ports of Patras and Igoumenitsa and the Italian port of Ancona .

In 2010 the ship was sold for 81.5 million euros and was launched as Cap Finistère for Brittany Ferries. Initially it was used between Portsmouth and Cherbourg and Portsmouth and Santander. Since March 2011 the ship has been sailing between Portsmouth and Bilbao as well as Portsmouth and Santander.

The ship is named after the cape on the west coast of Galicia in northwestern Spain.

Technical data and equipment

The drive of the ship by four four-stroke - sixteen-cylinder - diesel engines of the manufacturer Sulzer (Type: NSD 16 CAM 40S) with a total of 46,080  kW power . The motors act on two controllable pitch propellers . The ship reaches a speed of 28  knots . It is equipped with two bow thrusters and one stern thruster. The bow thrusters initially each had an output of 900 kW and were replaced by 1,500 kW bow thrusters in 2010.

Two shaft generators each with 1,680 kW (2,100  kVA apparent power ) and three diesel generators with 1,600 kW each (2000 kVA apparent power) are available for the power supply. An emergency generator with an output of 910 kW (1,137 kVA apparent power) was also installed.

At the beginning of 2015, the ship was equipped with a gas scrubber for exhaust gas desulphurization at the Spanish shipyard Astilleros de Santander .

There is space for 850 passengers on board. The ship has 265 passenger cabins with a total of 842 beds. In addition, ten cots are available, which can be used in the cabins if necessary. The cabins are located on decks 7, 8 and 9.

Superfast Ferries had marketed the ship with a passenger capacity of 1,600 people, of which 842 could be accommodated in cabins. Reclining chairs were also available. The high passenger capacity was also due to the fact that the shipping company offered "camping on board" and passengers who were traveling with caravans or mobile homes could spend the night in their vehicle.

On the ro-ro decks with 1,926  lane meters there is space for 500 cars or 107 trucks. The ro-ro decks, which are located on decks 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6, can be reached via a bow and three stern ramps and connected to one another in the ship by ramps. In front of the bow ramp there is a laterally opening bow hatch . There is also a fixed ramp on the forecastle, which can be used via a shore-side ramp. A bulkhead closes the ro-ro deck behind. Decks 3 and 5 are full-length decks. In the rear of the ship, the ro-ro deck on deck 5 merges into an open deck. The “Camping on board” vehicles could be parked here at Superfast Ferries.
