Carl Adam Bader (born January 10, 1789 in Bamberg , † April 14, 1870 in Berlin ), also Karl Adam Bader was a German singer ( tenor ).

Life

Bader was the son of the organist of the Bamberg Cathedral St. Peter and St. Georg . He received his first musical training from his father, later the cathedral chapter took care of his training. In 1807 he appointed him to succeed his father.

After a few years in the service of the church, he moved to the Bamberg Theater in 1811. There he worked with Franz Ignaz von Holbein ; for a very short time also with ETA Hoffmann . Bader made his debut as a singer in the role of "Loradeno", followed by "Belmonte" and "Sargines" in the same year.

Bader later moved to the royal court theater in Munich . Official criticism was a little more reserved, but audiences soon saw him as a competitor to Antonio Brizzi . After several years of working with the conductor Peter Joseph von Lindpaintner and successively accepted engagements at the theaters of Bremen , Hamburg and Braunschweig .

At the age of 29 Bader was able to perform for the first time in Berlin in 1818 and two years later he was engaged on the royal stage - awarded the title of Kammersänger . There he was part of the ensemble until his official last appearance in 1845. He then worked at this house for a few years as a director and until the end of his life he directed the musical events in St. Hedwig's Cathedral ( Archdiocese of Berlin ).

A few weeks after his 81st birthday, Carl Adam Bader died on Maundy Thursday, April 14, 1870 in Berlin, where he found his final resting place.

From 1813 he was married to the actress Sophie Laurent .

Bader soon got out of the shadows of his colleagues, such as B. Antonio Brizzi, and was considered one of the best German tenors of his time by audiences and official critics for years. Whether comic or lyrical or tragic roles or simple soirées , Bader was always a sought-after and celebrated interpreter.
