Carl Adolph von Brühl

Count Carl Adolph von Brühl ( April 4, 1742 in Dresden , † August 3, 1802 in Ziethen ) was a Prussian cavalry general , knight of the Polish Order of the White Eagle and educator of the Prussian Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm and his siblings.

Life

origin

He was a son of the royal Polish and Electoral Saxon Minister Heinrich von Brühl (1700–1763) and his wife Maria Anna Franziska, née Countess von Kolowrat-Krakowsky (1717–1762).

Military career

Brühl began his military career in the Saxon Army . There he became an ensign in the cavalry in 1747 and advanced to colonel by 1760 . In 1762 he was promoted to major general and on May 6, 1763 to lieutenant general. In 1787 Friedrich Wilhelm II brought him into his service and on January 1st made him the Prussian lieutenant general of the cavalry and educator of the princes. On May 21, 1798 he was promoted to general of the cavalry .

Carl Adolph von Brühl married Sophia Gomm on August 17, 1778 (* July 6, 1761; † September 26, 1837). She was the daughter of the Royal British Legation Secretary Sir William Gomm in St. Petersburg . The couple had the following children:
