Carl Wilhelm August Balck , more rarely Karl Wilhelm August Balck , occasionally Carl Balck (born March 19, 1831 in Grevesmühlen , † November 29, 1920 in Schwerin ) was a German administrative lawyer and historian in Mecklenburg-Schwerin .

Life

Carl Wilhelm August Balck came from a family that had served the dukes of Mecklenburg as administrative experts for several centuries. His father Gottfried Christian Karl Balck (1798–1878) was the governor of the Domanialamt Grevesmühlen-Plüschow and later rose to the position of Privy Councilor. Balck attended the Friedrich-Franz-Gymnasium (Parchim) and, after graduating from high school, studied law at the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the University of Rostock . He became active in the Corps Hannovera Göttingen in 1852 . He fought 30 courses in seven semesters .

Balck passed the administrative examination in 1858 and joined the Mecklenburg Domanial administration . In 1860 he became an administrator in Schwaan and in 1868 an official in Schwerin. In 1869 he founded the Mecklenburg Domanialkapitalfonds and became its chairman. In the same year he became a member of the newly created Mecklenburg Grand Ducal Trade Commission , of which he became conductor in 1886. From 1885 to 1901 he was a director of the Schweriner Sparkasse . In 1887 he was a member of the commission that drafted the amendment to the law on health insurance for the German Empire . In 1908 he retired as a secret finance councilor.

As an author, Balck left behind numerous publications on the domain and financial administration of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Throughout his life he was particularly interested in the history of Mecklenburg . In 1904 he became chairman of the commission for the publication of the Mecklenburg record book .

The Drost Robert Balck was a cousin.
