Carl von Monroy

Carl Wilhelm Friedrich von Monroy (born February 1, 1846 in Güstrow , † December 24, 1924 in Schwerin ) was a German forester and chief forest master of Mecklenburg-Schwerin .

Life

Carl von Monroy came from the Huguenot noble family von Monroy , who came to Mecklenburg via Celle and worked here for generations as foresters and lawyers in the service of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin . His father (Reinhold) Karl von Monroy was a judge and the last president of the Grand Ducal High Court in Güstrow. His brother Ernst (Carl Friedrich) von Monroy also became a judge.

After graduating from the cathedral school in Güstrow , Carl von Monroy joined the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Grenadier Regiment No. 89 . As a lieutenant he took part in the campaign against France in 1870/71, where he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class. In 1875 he passed the forest auditor exam and was a forester in Ludwigslust from 1877 to 1879 . In 1880 he was promoted to forestry inspector in Jasnitz, now a part of Picher . In 1888 he was appointed forest council and member of the grand ducal forest college in Schwerin. 1896 he was as Oberland forester overall responsibility for the Grand Ducal Forestry (the Domaniums transferred), and in 1898 he was appointed head of the Hofjägeramtes. On the XXVIII. At the gathering of German forest men in April 1899 in Schwerin, he was elected 2nd chairman of the newly founded German Forest Association.

Since 1899 he was a member of the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology and the Mecklenburg Heimatbund.

Two of his sons died in the First World War : Ernst Ludwig von Monroy, a forest science student in Munich and Oberjäger in the Mecklenburg Jäger Battalion No. 14 , on September 26, 1914, and the lawyer Karl Axel von Monroy on February 6, 1915. A Another son Johann Albrecht von Monroy also became a forester.
