Carl von Wegnern (born August 3, 1777 in Königsberg i. Pr. , † November 7, 1854 ibid) was a German judge.

origin

He came from a family who originally lived on their estate in Osterweddingen ( Province of Saxony ), but had already moved to Königsberg in the 16th century, where they were raised to the Polish nobility in 1635 and given the Prussian indigenous status. He was the son of the Royal Prussian Major General Georg Friedrich von Wegnern (1729-1793), head of the infantry - regiment . Schoenfeld No. 30, and the Albertine Wilhelmine of Syburg (1740-1790).

Life

Wegnern studied law at the Albertus University in Königsberg from 1791 to 1794 . After graduating as Dr. iur. he entered Prussia's administration of justice . In 1796 he came to the East Prussian government (judicial authority) as a court assessor . In 1797 he became court judge in Insterburg . In 1804 he was Councilor in Plock and 1807 District Judicial Council in Prussian Eylau .

As higher regional court director in Kwidzyn , he was appointed Vice President of the 1816 Supreme Court appointed. Soon afterwards he returned to the Marienwerder Higher Regional Court as Vice President . At the end of 1819 he became vice-president of the Königsberg Higher Regional Court , later its president.

From 1832 to 1849 he was Chief President of the Prussian Tribunal , a position associated with the court title Chancellor of the Kingdom of Prussia and the protectorate of the Royal German Society of Königsberg . As a Freemason , he was a member of the Lodge Zum Phoenix from 1804 to 1813 as well as master and honorary master of the Lodge Zu den Drei Kronen in Königsberg.

The historian Friedrich Wilhelm Schubert , Professor of History and Political Science at the Albertus University in Königsberg , dedicated his handbook of General Political Studies of Europe to Wegnern on the occasion of his anniversary as judge in 1846 .

The Protestant theologian August Hahn , as a licentiate and private lecturer at the University of Königsberg, dedicated his work Commentar on the Book of Job to the Tribunal President Wegnern on the occasion of his 74th birthday on August 3, 1850 .

family

Wegnern married on January 12, 1802 Emilie Hedwig Countess zu Eulenburg (* October 21, 1780 - June 30, 1853 in Königsberg) from the house of Prassen, the daughter of Ernst Christoph Graf zu Eulenburg and Katharina Margareta Hedwig Countess von der Groeben . The only son from this marriage is Anton von Wegnern (1809-1891), most recently the District President of Bromberg , plus the daughters:
