Georg Friedrich von Wegnern (* 14. March 1729 in Braunsberg ; † 13. September 1793 fell in Ensheim ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He came from the von Wegner family , who originally lived on their estate in Osterweddingen ( province of Saxony ), but had already moved to Königsberg in the 16th century, where they were raised to the Polish nobility in 1635 and given the Prussian indigenous status . He was the son of the Prussian colonel and landowner of the same name Georg Friedrich von Wegnern (1698–1764), lord of Kapkeim , Damerau, Pregelswalde and Freienwalde as well as commander of the infantry regiment "Graf Dohna" No. 16 , and his relatives Louise Amalie von Wegnern (1702 -1766).

Career

Wegnern began his career in 1746 as a private corporal in the "Flanß" infantry regiment No. 16. In 1749 he was promoted to ensign and in 1752 to second lieutenant . In the Seven Years' War he took part in the battles near Großjägersdorf , Zorndorf , Kunersdorf and Torgau . As early as 1758 he was promoted to prime lieutenant and then rose to staff captain in 1763 . He continued his tour and became captain and company commander in 1764 . Wegnern also took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . In 1785 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and in 1786 was commander of the 2nd battalion . With his promotion to colonel , he was also transferred to the "Egloffstein" No. 4 infantry regiment, where he had been in command from 1789. From November 7, 1792 he was chief of the Schönfeldt Infantry Regiment No. 30 . In 1793 he was appointed major general and fell in September of the same year at Ensheim in the First Coalition War against the French as chief of the infantry regiment "von Borcke" No. 31 .

Wegnern married on May 15, 1765 in Königsberg Albertine Wilhelmine, born von Syburg (* April 20, 1740; † May 12, 1790), the daughter of his regiment chief Friedrich Wilhelm von Syburg (1709-1770). After the divorce, Albertine Wilhelmine married the later Prussian Lieutenant General Carl Friedrich von Hamberger (1745-1811). Wengern married again on February 17, 1783 in Königsberg with Barbara Dorothea Charlotte von Roeder († 1803).
