Carlos Sylvestre de Ouro Preto

Carlos Sylvestre de Ouro Preto (born December 30, 1916 in Berlin , Germany , † May 22, 1985 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian diplomat .

Life

Carlos Sylvestre de Ouro Preto was a son of Carlos Celso de Ouro Preto . In 1937 Carlos Sylvestre de Ouro-Preto was appointed third class consul. From June 25, 1940 he was Vice-Consul in Berlin under Consul João Navarro da Costa. On May 30, 1942, he was transferred from the consulate in Berlin to the consulate in Porto . In 1943 he was employed at the Consulate General in Lisbon .

In 1949 he was chairman of the diplomatic service admission competition. From 1949 to 1950 he was employed in the mission at the United Nations. From May 14, 1954 to April 13, 1955 he was chargé d'affaires in Bogotá . From July 12, 1958 to the end of 1958, he was charge d'affaires in Vienna . In 1960 he headed the Itamaraty Politics department and stated in a memorandum that there was a lack of information about Africa.

In May 1960 he was awarded the Grand Commander in the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany . From January 22, 1962 to February 21, 1966 he was ambassador in Bonn . On November 18, 1966, he was awarded the Brazilian Order of Merit.

From June 12, 1966 to January 20, 1970 he was Ambassador to António de Oliveira Salazar in Lisbon . As such, he traveled to the Portuguese colony of Angola from February 7 to 12, 1967 and received a Brazilian naval unit. This demonstrative alliance with the colonial rulers was noticed in Angola. and when his brother Gil Roberto Fernando de Ouro Preto was to replace Ovídio Melo as chargé d'affaires in Maputo for health reasons, Ovídio Melo had to explain to the government of the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola that he was another Ouro Preto. On August 19, 1968, Carlos Sylvestre de Ouro Preto was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique .

From February 27, 1970 to June 11, 1972 he was Ambassador to Caracas , from July 16, 1972 to November 23, 1979 Ambassador in Bern , from December 6, 1979 to December 9, 1982, Ambassador in Brussels and from December 9, 1982 to June 15, 1984 Ambassador to Rome .
