Carmi is a small town and the administrative seat of White County in the southeast of the US -amerikanischen State of Illinois on the Little Wabash River . In 2000 Carmi had 5,422 inhabitants.

history
Between 1809 and 1814 the first white settlers came to the area and founded the place, the name of which is derived from the biblical figure of Joseph's nephew. The oldest building in Carni, now a museum, was constructed in 1814 and served as the courthouse when White County was founded in 1815.
In Carmi lived Everton Conger, who as an officer carried out the arrest of the murderer of Abraham Lincoln , John Wilkes Booth .
