The 2001 season was the first edition of the Celtic League , the joint championship played by Irish, Welsh and Scottish rugby teams. It began on August 17, 2001 and consisted of 15 teams. These were divided into a group of eight and a group of seven, after which each team competed once against the others. After seven or six match days, the four best in each group met in a knockout round. The final on December 15, 2001 decided Leinster Rugby for themselves.
