Cengiz Akyıldız (born January 2, 1981 in Istanbul ) is a former Turkish ice hockey player and current official who was last under contract with the Canterbury Red Devils in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League until 2012 . He works as a team manager for the Turkish association in the youth sector.

Career

Cengiz Akyıldız began his career as a hockey player with İstanbul Paten SK in his hometown, for whom he made his debut in the Turkish Super League in the 1998/99 season . Interrupted by a year at Kocaeli Büyükşehir Belediyesi Kağıt SK , he played for his home club until 2009. In 2000 he was able to win the main round of the Superliga with the team, but lost the final against the main round third Büyükşehir Belediyesi Ankara SK with 4: 8. In 2009 he moved to the southern hemisphere to the Canterbury Red Devils in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League , which he won with his team in 2009.

International

For Turkey Akyıldız took part in the junior division in the U18-D European Championship 1997 and the U20-D World Championship in 1999 .

With the men's national team , he first played at the D World Championships in 1999 and 2000 . After switching to the current division system, he represented his colors at the Division II competitions in 2002 , 2005 and 2007 as well as at the World Championships in Division III in 2004 , 2006 , 2008 , 2011 and 2012 . He was also on the ice for the team from the Bosporus during the pre-qualification for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver .

Coaching career

Already towards the end of his playing career Akyıldız was also active as a functionary for the Turkish association. As a team manager, he worked for the Turkish U20 national team at the 2012 and 2015 World Championships in Division III and in the same role for the country's U18 team at the 2015 World Cup, also in Division III.
