Central Texas Stampede was an American ice hockey team from Belton , Texas . The team played in the Western Professional Hockey League from 1996 to 2001 .
history
Central Texas Stampede was founded in 1996 as a franchise of the Western Professional Hockey League . In this the team was one of six founding members. In the 1998/99 season, Stampede reached the playoffs for the President's Cup as third in his division for the first time , but failed in the first round with a sweep in the best-of-three series at the Lake Charles Ice Pirates . The following year the Texans completed the most successful season of their existence. After they won the Governor's Cup as the best team of the regular season, they failed after a bye and a victory over the Arkansas GlacierCats only in the third playoff round at the later President's Cup winner Shreveport Mudbugs with 2-4 wins in the best-of -Seven series.
During the 2000/01 season, Central Texas Stampede had to cease running game operations for financial reasons and the franchise was dissolved. Immediately after the end of the season, the Western Professional Hockey League met the same fate.
