Centro Sportivo Alagoano , CSA for short or simply Alagoano outside Brazil, is a Brazilian soccer team from Maceió , the capital of Alagoa . It's the largest club in the state and has by far the largest fan base.

The association was founded on September 7, 1913. Its arch rival is the local club Clube de Regatas Brasil .

history

CS Alagoano was founded on September 7, 1913 in Maceió as Centro Sportivo Sete de Setembro .

In 1928, the club won its first title with the Alagoas State Championship.

In 1976 Fernando Collor de Mello , who later became President of Brazil, was President of CS Alagoano. In 1980, the team rose for the first time in the Série B , the second-highest division in Brazil. After only two seasons, the team was relegated. There was an immediate resurgence. The last time the club rose to Série B in 1983. 1999 they stood surprisingly in the final of the Copa Conmebol , which they lost 4-2 and 0-3 against CA Talleres . From the 2000s the team went downhill. Local rivals Clube de Regatas Brasil could not stay in the higher classes permanently. For season 2020, the CSA is playing in the Série B .

In the top Brazilian league, the Série A , CS Alagoano played in the seasons 1974–77, 79, 81–83, 85, 86 and 2019 . His best placings were twice a 13th place ( 1981 , 1985 ).

So far, CS Alagoano has played in two different stadiums: On the one hand the Mutange with a capacity of 4,000 spectators and, in better times, in the Rei Pelé, which holds 30,000 spectators.
