Christopher "Chris" Mazdzer (born June 26, 1988 in Pittsfield , Massachusetts ) is an American luge athlete . His greatest success so far is winning the silver medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang .
Christopher Mazdzer lives in Saranac Lake and would like to become a toboggan trainer after his active career. He competes in both single and double seats.
- Single seater
He started successfully in his youth. In 2003 he finished second, in 2004 third in the Youth World Cup, and in 2005 he won the racing series. At world championships he won silver in 2006 and 2007, and gold in team competition in 2008. He also missed a medal in fourth place in the single-seater. In the 2007/08 season he won three races in the Junior World Cup, but had to admit defeat to the German Sascha Benecken in the overall standings. In addition, he won the US junior title in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Mazdzer has been driving in the senior division since the 2005/06 season . He contested his first race in Sigulda and finished 36th. In the second race he was 17th in Cesana Pariol . It remained the best of his five season results, and in the overall standings he came in 40th. In the following season , Mazdzer started four times, best result was a 22nd place in Sigulda. In the overall standings he was 36th. The 2007/08 season only needed two partial appearances, including 17th place in Sigulda. In the overall ranking he was 40 again. The US-American achieved his best international result in 14th place at the 2009 Luge World Championships on his home track in Lake Placid . In 2007 he took part in a World Cup in Igls for the first time and came in 28th there. Mazdzer won the title at the 2007 US championships.
- Two-seater
Mazdzer tobogganed in the two-seater first with Mike McTigue, in 2005/06 with Garon Thorne . At the 2006 World Cup both finished third in Altenberg . Since the 2006/07 season, Mazdzer, as the front man, has also formed a two-seater together with Jayson Terdiman . In 2007 they won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships, in 2008 they won silver behind Toni Eggert and Marcel Oster . In 2007 they were doubles involved in winning the silver team medal and in 2008 the gold team medal. In the 2007/08 season they came second six times in the Junior World Cup and were runner-up in the overall standings. In 2007 and 2008 they won the US Juniors title, and in 2008 they were also third in the US Championships. In the 2008/09 season the doubles made their debut at the beginning of the season in Igls in the Luge World Cup and finished 17th. This was followed by 16th in Sigulda and 14th in Winterberg .
