The Christ-Königs-Kirche is the parish church of the Evangelical Parish AB Perchtoldsdorf ( Evangelical Church AB ) in the market town of Perchtoldsdorf in Lower Austria at Wenzel-Frey-Gasse 2.

history

The Protestant congregation was founded in 1920 as a preaching station and in 1938 as a subsidiary of the parish AB Mödling and became independent in 1953.

Church and Community Center

The church with a retracted rectangular choir and a set, square tower in the entrance area was built according to plans by the architect Sepp (Josef) Schuster . The foundation stone was laid on August 2, 1959 and the inauguration on June 17, 1962. In 1992 the community center and in 1994 the tower were renovated.

The name “Christ-Königs-Kirche” was taken over from the “Christ-Königs-Saal” in Fuggerheim at Marktplatz 21 (today Landhaus Schindler, before 1952 hotel-restaurant “Zum Schwarzen Adler”), which served as a community center before the church was built.

This naming by the congregation expresses who is in the middle of a Christian church and refers to the Reformation, which Jesus Christ put back at the center with the phrase " Christ alone ". In the context of the time of construction, the naming was also meant as a consciously and unmistakably clear rejection of National Socialist aberrations by the Evangelical Church, also in Austria.

The glass painting for the 13 church windows was created by Günther Baszel . They are illustrations of the "Perchtoldsdorfer Gemeindeliedes" (Jesus Christ rules as King), which the poet and Pietist Philipp Friedrich Hiller wrote.

In 1967, three bells from the Pfundner bell foundry were raised and consecrated on June 18, 1967. In 1981 the church received a new two-manual organ, which was built by the organ building company Gerhard Hradetzky in Oberbergern .

On October 31, 2017, the newly designed church square, the new entrance to the parish hall from the church square and the new step-free walkway to the parish center were officially opened on the occasion of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. The new access to the community hall leads via a harmoniously added extension (new cloakroom) with an artistically designed curtain facade made of Corten steel. The backlit facade bears sayings that interpret and present the patronage "Christ the King". The new church square has an open design with benches and green islands, and also extends over the Dr. Natzler-Gasse and invites you to linger, but does not interrupt the traffic on weekdays and still has parking spaces for the disabled in the immediate vicinity of the church entrance.

Rectory

The rectory at Wenzel-Frey-Gasse 4 was built in 1991.
