Achau parish church
The Roman Catholic parish church of Achau is located in the municipality of Achau in the Mödling district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to St. Laurentius and belongs to the dean's office Mödling in the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is a listed building .
history
The place is mentioned for the first time in a document in 1170 as owned by the Lords of Achau, ministerials of the Babenbergs. The parish church was founded in the 12th century as the patronage church of the Babenbergs. Various families who owned the Achau estate followed, such as the Haiden and the Moser von Ebreichsdorf . In 1421, Johann Simphonista was the first pastor to be named.
From 1312 to 1529 Achau was its own parish, then a branch of Biedermannsdorf . In 1783 the parish became independent again as part of the reforms of Joseph II .
Today's church
The Romanesque church was largely destroyed in 1529. A Romanesque core has been preserved in today's church. In 1660 the presbytery was added with a 5/8 end and the church was expanded to include a sacristy . The west tower was rebuilt in 1738 and provided with a baroque spire , after 1945 it was given a tent roof. The last restorations were in 1968, 1983 and 2001–2003.
Furnishing
Most of the furnishings and altars date from the 20th century. An epitaph of the knight Haiden zu Guntramsdorf from 1528 and memorial plaques from 1770 and 1823 of the Moser family are in the nave .
