Parish church to the Hll. Simon and Jude Thaddeus

The parish church of Saints Simon and Jude Thaddäus is a Roman Catholic church in the Lower Austrian municipality of Vösendorf . It belongs to the dean's office Perchtoldsdorf of the Archdiocese of Vienna .

history

The parish Vösendorf has been documented since 1267. The medieval, west-east-facing predecessor of today's church, consecrated to Saint George , was destroyed during the Turkish wars in 1529 and again in 1683. The hall church from 1628 was rebuilt in 1686. After Vösendorf was a center of Protestantism during the Reformation, it became independent again as a Catholic parish in 1673. In 1746 the volute gable facade was added on the south side, in 1754 the facade tower. In 1823 the entire church underwent extensive renovation after it was damaged during the French Wars. The most recent interior renovation was in 1966 and an exterior renovation in 1995. In 1991 the church square was redesigned.

Building description

The church is located in the center of Vösendorf on Kirchenplatz by the local road. It is oriented to the north. The early baroque nave is structured by pilaster strips and has high arched windows. In the south it was extended by an extension with a tower, which has a late baroque facade. The tower is crowned by an onion helmet. On the east side of the nave there is a baptistery, which was originally the choir of the previous Romanesque building . The two-storey sacristy with a round stair tower is located to the west of the three-sided choir .

The interior of the nave is a three-bay hall church with a groin vault on pillars. The organ gallery, which was drawn in in 1754, is supported by two marbled columns. Behind a round arched triumphal arch is the retracted choir, which is also covered with groin vault. The so-called Turmmandl , a stone head probably from the 12th century that comes from the clock room of the tower, has been moved to the east wall of the nave since 1939 .

The high altar has an altar panel depicting Saints Simon and Jude Thaddäus from 1717. The baroque pulpit dates from 1687. Statues show the apostles Peter and Paul as well as a Pietà from the 2nd half of the 19th century, Saint Florian from Early 18th century and twice Saint John Nepomuk (early 18th century and 2nd half of 18th century). There are also late Baroque paintings of the Way of the Cross in the church. The font dates from the 1st half of the 18th century. In the tower chapel there is an icon of the Blessed Mother of Vladimir , which the Russian refugee Krasovsky painted in 1939.

A grave slab from 1583 is dedicated to the court hospital Phisikus Andreas Dadius, one from 1772 to the pastor Thaddäus Henricus Reitzer. Both are located in the tower side room. In the nave there is the grave of the one-year-old son of Court War Councilor David Ungnad from the 2nd half of the 16th century and that of Maria Anna Freyin von Fleischmann from 1738.

Church square

Next to the south facade of the church there is a statue of a crescent moon Madonna from 1890. There is also a war memorial for the fallen soldiers of the First World War, which consists of a stone base with a portrait relief of a soldier who is crowned by an eagle. To the east of the church was a farmhouse, where the Christmas chapel with a carved wooden altar was built in 2006.

Rectory

Rectory

The vicarage from 1674, which was rebuilt from 1772–1773, is located on local road 163 near the church. The two-storey building has a wide arched portal with a vaulted passage. Baroque stucco mirrors can still be seen on the upper floor. In 1987 Erwin Plevan added the parish hall on the courtyard side.
