The Roman Catholic parish church Südstadt is located in the Südstadt district of the Maria Enzersdorf community in the Mödling district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to the Holy Spirit and belongs to the Mödling deanery in the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ). The church is not to be confused with the much older Holy Spirit Church of the Mission House St. Gabriel , one kilometer further west .

history

In 1966 a parish exposition in Südstadt was built in the NEWAG administration building (today Energieversorgung Niederösterreich ). 1969–1970 the church was built according to the plans of the architects Hannes Lintl and Gerhard Düh. She was consecrated to the Holy Spirit. The church became the parish church in 1993. Since 2014, after the merging of the parishes of Maria Enzersdorf and Südstadt, it has been the parish church for the entire parish of Maria Enzersdorf.

Building description

The church is a simple, cubic reinforced concrete frame with single-storey extensions and a low, free-standing bell tower. The central church service room is illuminated by a ribbon of windows above. The model for the construction was the Celtic temple. The organ used until 2016 was built in 1908 by the well-known Slovak organ builder Vincent Možný (also Magyarized: Vincze Mozsny, 1844-1919) for the composer Franz Schmidt according to his specifications, was dismantled and is currently in the care of the Institute for Organ, Organ research and church music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . It is stored in a room of the institute at Seilerstätte 26 pending restoration. Since then, the parish church in Maria Enzersdorf has been content with a digital organ from the Dutch manufacturer Content.
