Guntramsdorf parish church
The Roman Catholic parish church Guntramsdorf is in the municipality Guntramsdorf in the Mödling district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to St. James the Elder and belongs to the dean's office Mödling in the vicariate Unter dem Wienerwald of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is a listed building .
history
A parish in Guntramsdorf is known from the year 1232. From 1690 to 1715 the parish was owned by the Reichersberg Abbey in Upper Austria.
James Church
During the Second World War , the previous church was completely destroyed by a bomb attack on May 24, 1944. In the years 1949 to 1952, a church with a wide high nave, a mighty gable roof and the church tower was built according to plans by architect Josef Vytiska . The main portal facade with triangular gable and columns shows a sgraffito Christ the King by Karl Hauk , who also designed extensive stained glass, mosaics and the Way of the Cross. The three-aisled basilica has a wide central nave with a wooden beam ceiling on concrete pillars with a column-free organ gallery. At the high altar is a large crucifix by Gustav Resatz . The cross is the largest in Lower Austria. The current pastor is Josef Wilk.
