history

In 1212 a chapel is named in honor of Our Lady . The church of St. Kunigunde was consecrated around 1340 (since 1348 a branch of the Roman Catholic parish Mödling). From 1520 to 1608 the church was used for Protestant services. In 1556 the current Roman Catholic parish was founded. From 1558 the judges and council of Mödling exercised the patronage , from 1788 to 1958 the rule of Liechtenstein.

After Cunegonde the former was named Gwendolyn mine in Brunn itself and the Kunigundberg (mentioned in 1341) in neighboring Perchtoldsdorf.

Building history

The Gothic church was built over a late Romanesque square choir church in several construction phases from the first half of the 14th century. After the destruction in the two Turkish wars and a fire in 1652, the church was repeatedly rebuilt or repaired. Pilgrimages took place from 1721 to 1735 . In 1855/56 the tower was renovated, converted and rebuilt. Gustav von Neumann carried out another renovation and redesign between 1897 and 1900. In 1944 and 1945 the roof and windows were badly damaged. In 1956 the tower was renewed after war damage and restorations were carried out in 1960/61, 1976 and 1996.
