Christa Lewek (1981)

Christa Lewek (born January 19, 1927 in Leipzig , † March 27, 2008 in Berlin ) was a German party functionary of the GDR CDU and Protestant senior church councilor .

Life

Lewek was the daughter of the Leipzig Protestant pastor Ernst Lewek , who was subjected to reprisals by the Nazi regime because of his Jewish roots . After obtaining her university entrance qualification , she studied German , philosophy and history in Leipzig . During these years she became a member of the Christian Democratic Union and secretary of the then CDU chairman Otto Nuschke . In 1959 she left the CDU. In 1958 she entered the service of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) for the Berlin-Brandenburg Church, which at that time still belonged to the EKD . When the Federation of Protestant Churches in the GDR was founded in 1969, she became a consultant for "Church and Society" in the Secretariat of the Federation of Evangelical Churches in the GDR. Under the heads of this secretariat Manfred Stolpe , Christoph Demke and Martin Ziegler she took over their deputy in the secretariat.

Lewek tried to hinder the work of the church opposition and Western correspondents in the GDR.

The then permanent representative of the Federal Republic of Germany in the GDR , Günter Gaus , conducted a television interview with her in January 1985 .

In 1988 she retired . On July 11, 1990, she was one of the founders of the Justice Committee , which was supposed to lead the PDS out of its political isolation at the time and which soon disbanded.

In 1994 she appeared before an investigative committee as a witness to exonerate her former boss Manfred Stolpe , whose Stasi involvement was being investigated.

Christa Lewek was unmarried. Pastors Kurt Lewek, Radebeul, and Gert Lewek, Bernburg belong to her siblings.
