Christian Immanuel Kind (born January 3, 1818 in Chur ; † May 23, 1884 ibid) was a Swiss Reformed pastor and historian .

Life

Christian Immanuel Kind was born in Chur in the canton of Graubünden on January 3, 1818; his parents were the local clergyman Paulus Kind der Younger and Friederike Liesching. After attending schools in Chur and four years at a school in Schönbrunn, Württemberg, he studied theology at the University of Tübingen after May 21, 1838 , until 1840; on June 22 of the same year he was accepted into the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod in Ilanz , giving him permission to work as a pastor in the canton and he took over the parishes of Castiel , Calfreisen and Lüen .

Two years later he moved to Safien . Two years later he moved to Klosters in 1844 . He stayed there for four years and then moved to Peist . In 1852 he was elected pastor in Saas im Prättigau and stayed there until 1865. Then he moved to Fanas , where he remained active until 1867.

Besides all these parish activities, Kind devoted himself to historical research. In 1869 he became archivist of the Chur City Archives. For three years he took care of the archive, which was previously neglected. During these years a dispute broke out within the synod between liberal and conservative theologians (the child belonged to the conservative theology). He resigned from the synod and was therefore no longer able to continue his parish activities.

In 1873 he was hired as the registrar of the city chancellery, a year later he moved to the canton's registry office and became registrar and archivist. Despite these circumstances, Kind found time to continue studying both the political and ecclesiastical history of Graubünden in the 16th and 17th centuries. In 1870 he became the librarian of the Graubünden Historical Research Society. He held this position in Chur until his death on May 23, 1884.

Kind was an employee of the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie , to which he contributed twelve articles. Kind is one of the most important Graubünden historians of the 19th century.
