Christian Schulz (born April 1, 1983 in Bassum ) is a German football player .
Career
societies
Werder Bremen
Schulz started playing football in 1989 at TSV Bassum . At the age of 12 he moved to the youth department of Werder Bremen . In 2004 he became German champions with Werder and won the DFB Cup .
Schulz is considered a versatile player. Despite or because of this flexibility, however, Schulz found it difficult to become an undisputed regular player. Nevertheless, “Schulle”, as he was affectionately known by his fans, became a crowd favorite. The sprawling "Schuuulz calls" are Weserstadion legendary. Until the end of the 2005/06 season he was regularly used on the left side of defense. In the 2006/07 season, however, he was in the shadow of the regularly playing Pierre Womé .
Hannover 96
On September 1, 2007, Schulz moved to Hannover 96 , where he signed a three-year contract with an option for a further year. In Hanover he was able to assert himself as a regular player and was one of the team's top performers. In March 2011, Schulz extended his contract, which expired at the end of the season, to 2014. On May 10, 2014, Hannover 96 announced another contract extension to 2016. From the 2015/16 season, after Lars Stindl's departure, Schulz was the longest- serving player as captain of Hannover 96, but did not receive a new contract for the 2016/17 season after relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga .
SK Sturm Graz
For the 2016/17 season, Schulz moved to the Austrian Bundesliga club SK Sturm Graz , where he received a contract that was valid until June 2018. After the 2017/18 season, he ended his professional career.
Career finale in Hanover
For the 2018/19 season , Schulz joined the second team of Hannover 96 and became the club's ambassador.
National team
Schulz played between 2001 and 2006 in the U-19 , U-20 and U-21 selection of the DFB . With the U20 he took part in the 2003 Junior World Cup in the United Arab Emirates , where he was used in all three games of his team. With the U21, Schulz took part in the U-21 European Championship 2006 in Portugal , in which he was also used in all three games.
On December 16, 2004, under Jürgen Klinsmann , Schulz made his debut in the national team in Tokyo against Japan and was also used in Bangkok against Thailand a week later . In 2005 he was nominated for the Confederations Cup . However, Christian Schulz left before the tournament due to a bruised tibia head with bone inflammation. Schulz was surprisingly nominated two years later for the international match against Denmark on March 28, 2007, but was again unable to take part due to an injury. Only after the 2010 World Cup , the defensive player was called up again on August 6, 2010 for a friendly game against Denmark , in which he came on in the 78th minute and played his last international match. The reason for this was that most of the World Cup players were not included at the beginning of the new 2010/11 season.
