Christian Stadlhofer (born July 26, 1980 in Stanz im Mürz Valley ) is an Austrian director and musical actor .

Life

Christian Stadlhofer grew up in the Styrian Mürz Valley , where he gained his first stage experience in school theater projects. After a short study trip to Vienna, he went to Germany to study musicals at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen . During his studies he was on stage in productions at the university. a. as Frank Shepard in Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along , as well as Kurt in Feuergesicht and as Orestes in Hoffmannsthal's Elektra .

Engagements have taken him to various stages in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and South Tyrol, for example in I puritani at the Aalto Theater in Essen, directed by Gil Mehmert to the Munich Volkstheater , to the Schauspielhaus Bochum , as Nick in Fame to the Musiktheater im Revier , as Lord Evelyn Oakleigh in Cole Porter'sAnything Goes ” staged by Josef Ernst Köpplinger to the Graz Opera , also as Percy in Frank Wildhorn's The Scarlet Pimpernell to the Ettlingen Castle Festival , to the St. Gallen Theater and to the City Theater Klagenfurt .

From 2008 to 2011 Christian Stadlhofer was seen in the musical Tanz der Vampire as the weird vampire researcher Professor Abronsius. He embodied this role in Oberhausen and Stuttgart.

Christian Stadlhofer is also active in the cabaret sector. In his solo evening Don't Fence Me In he tells about the life and work of Cole Porter . His program I Cry No More is a humorous report on the job search as a musical actor.

Christian Stadlhofer has been working as a director and choreographer since 2013. He staged the South Tyrolean premiere of Jason Robert Brown's The Last 5 Years , Non (n) sense and Georg Kreislers Tonight: Lola Blau for the South Tyrolean MurX-Theater as well as the world premiere of the rock opera Ein Lied von Freiheit at the Consol Theater Gelsenkirchen.

As an employee of renowned directors such as Gil Mehmert, Melissa King and Katharina Wagner, he was responsible for productions on Sunset Blvd. , Singin 'In The Rain , Tristan and Isolde , Hair , Goethe! To love and death , Lohengrin , Hairspray and Fidelio . This work led him to the State Theater in Nuremberg , the Munich Gärtnerplatztheater , the Bayreuth Festival , the Prague National Theater , the Dortmund Opera and the New National Theater Tokyo .

Together with Hardy Rudolz, Christian Stadlhofer brought a touring version of Cole Porter's Kiss me Kate to the stage in 2015 . This could be seen in the entire German-speaking area. In 2016, together with choreographer Vanni Viscusi, the two developed one of the first free productions by Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats for the Luisenburg Festival . After two sold out seasons, the production, with almost 72,000 tickets sold, is the most successful production in the history of Germany's oldest open-air theater.

Stadlhofer is actively involved in the Uptempo eV initiative for young German-speaking musicals. In this context he created Düsseldorf Capitol Theater and the Show Musical Academy in 2017 and 2018 .

From October 2017 to December 2018, his production of Grease was on tour throughout the German-speaking region.

From 2018 to 2020 Christian Stadlhofer was the artistic director of the Stage Metronom Theater in Oberhausen and in this role was responsible for the productions Bat Out of Hell and Tanz der Vampire .
