Christine and Irene Hohenbüchler
Christine and Irene Hohenbüchler (born October 3, 1964 in Vienna ) are Austrian twins who are artistically active in a variety of ways ( installations , objects , digital art , painting ).
life and work
The identical twins Christine and Irene Hohenbüchler were born in Vienna in 1964. In 1984 they began studying sculpture at the University of Applied Arts Vienna . After graduating in 1989, they studied at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht with Guillaume Bijl and Henk Visch . Irene Hohenbüchler spent a semester abroad at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs de Paris from 1987 to 1988 and studied for a semester with Roy Ascott at the Institute for Communication Theory at the University of Vienna .
The twin sisters have been active as an artist couple since 1990. In the 1990s they mainly worked with marginalized social groups : prisoners, mentally ill, people with increased needs. The collaboration with the art workshop in Lienz resulted in the presentation at the documenta X in Kassel 1997.

From 2002 to 2005 Irene Hohenbüchler was visiting professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . After a substitute professorship from 2010 to 2011, she is now professor for cooperative strategies at the Art Academy in Münster .
Christine Hohenbüchler has been Professor of Drawing and Visual Languages at the Institute of Art and Design at the Faculty of Architecture and Spatial Planning at the Vienna University of Technology since 2002 .
