biography

The Dreier, who lives in Neukirchen am Großvenediger, is a graduate of the Schladming Ski School . At the age of 13 he was accepted into the Salzburg national squad. In 1996 his first start was in an FIS race and he was accepted into the junior squad of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV). However, since he did not meet the criteria for promotion to the European Cup squad in the next three years due to a lack of success , the ÖSV ended the cooperation and Dreier started again for the Salzburg State Ski Association. In 2004, however, he finally made it into the ÖSV European Cup team.

In December 2004, Dreier suffered his first serious injury: he tore the syndesmosis ligament in his right ankle , which meant the premature end of the season for him. In the following season the Austrian went uphill again and on December 13, 2005 he won his first race in the European Cup, the slalom on the Gran Risa in Alta Badia . On December 22, 2005, his first start in the World Cup slalom from Kranjska Gora , where he was eliminated in the first round. He was at the end of the 2005/06 season with two victories fifth in the EC slalom classification and rose to the A-squad of the ÖSV.

In the 2006/07 season Dreier achieved World Cup points for the first time in the super combination of Beaver Creek with 19th place. This result remained his best in the Ski World Cup for the next four years. In March 2007 he became Austrian runner-up in slalom. On January 11, 2008, he suffered another ankle injury in the combined descent from Wengen and had to end the season. After a good recovery, he suffered a rupture of the Achilles tendon during slalom training in Zermatt in August 2008 and had to take a break for the entire 2008/09 season.

After a long break from injury, he returned to the competition on November 7, 2009 at the European Indoor Championships . He finished eleventh as the third-best Austrian. On January 17, 2010, he achieved his second-best World Cup placement in the Wengen slalom with 21st place. In the European Cup he reached fifth place in the slalom classification in the 2009/10 season, just like four years before. At the end of the season he was Austrian runner-up in slalom for the second time. Nevertheless, he was dismissed from all cadres of the ÖSV after the winter.

Dreier still got the opportunity to start in the World Cup. On December 12, 2010 he reached tenth place in the slalom of Val-d'Isère and thus his best World Cup result. He also managed to return to the A-team of the ÖSV. At the 2011 World Championship in Garmisch-Partenkirchen - his first and only participation in the World Championship - he finished 18th in the slalom. In the winter of 2011/12, Dreier was among the fastest 20 in three World Cup slaloms, with his best result being a 14th place in Wengen. Nevertheless, his results were not enough for the squad guidelines of the ÖSV, which is why he announced his resignation in May 2012.
