Christopher Lowson (born February 3, 1953 in Consett , County Durham ) is a British Anglican theologian . He has been Bishop of Lincoln in the Church of England since 2011 .

Life

Lowson comes from a family of steel workers . His father, grandfather, and great-grandfather worked in the Consett steel mills . His grandfather, a professional soccer player in the 1920s, had the offer to play for Newcastle United but moved his family to Lincoln , where he played professionally for Lincoln City . Lowson also began his training as a holiday worker for two summers as a worker in the steel furnaces in Consett. He attended Blackfyne Comprehensive School and Consett Grammar School. At the age of 13, shortly after his confirmation , he first considered the idea of ​​becoming a priest. From 1972 to 1976 he studied at King's College London of the University of London ; there he earned an Associateship of King's College Diploma (ACK) in theology in 1975 . In 1977 he was ordained a deacon ; In 1978 he was ordained a priest . His priests career began from 1977 to 1982 as Vicar ( Curate ) in Richmond in the county of Surrey . Lowson's election as Bishop of Lincoln was formally confirmed on July 19, 2011 at Lambeth Palace , officially making him Bishop of Lincoln. He was ordained bishop on September 21, 2011 by Rowan Williams , Archbishop of Canterbury , at Westminster Abbey . His inauguration and enthronement took place on November 12, 2011 at Lincoln Cathedral .

Lowson has been married to his wife Susan Lowson since 1976. His wife is a state-approved nurse and geriatric nurse ( Registered General and Pediatric Nurse ). She works as the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and advises on clinical issues relating to complaints about the National Health Service . She is also a member of the Churchwarden of St Matthew's Church in Westminster . The marriage resulted in two grown children, a son and a daughter.

His hobbies include walking , sports (as a spectator; especially cricket and soccer ), contemporary literature , theater and cooking .
