Christopher Wilkinson (born March 29, 1950 in New York City ) is an American film director , screenwriter and film producer . He received a nomination for Best Screenplay at the 1996 Academy Awards for his screenplay for Nixon . Wilkinson works with Stephen J. Rivele on his scripts .

Life

Wilkinson was born in New York City and raised in Philadelphia . At first he tried his luck as a musician, but then studied at the film school of Temple University . He then initially worked for the sports channel ESPN . Some of his contributions have also aired on PBS , including the documentary Engine 2, Ladder 3, about the Philadelphia Fire Department. This is how he won the attention of Mark Rydell , who hired him as Second Unit Director for his film People on the River . He worked with Rydell more and more often in the 1980s and 1990s, including on For the Boys - Days of Fame, Days of Love (1991), which he co-produced, and Encounters - Intersection (1994). He also worked for the development company that made films such as God's Forgotten Children (1986), Nuts ... Crazed (1987) and The Man in the Moon (1991).

Part of his job was reading a lot of scripts and that's how he got the idea to write scripts himself. In Stephen J. Rivele , a novelist, he found a partner to support him. After selling some scripts to HandMade Films , George Harrison's film company , Rivele persuaded him to work on a script about Richard Nixon's life. Although Wilkinson was actually a Nixon hater, they took on the work on the script, which ultimately won an Oscar nomination at the 1996 Academy Awards, but lost to Christopher McQuarrie's script for The Usual Suspects .

The next major project was Ali , a biography of Muhammad Ali that was made into a film in 2001. In 2006, Klang der Stille was filmed, a biopic about Ludwig van Beethoven .

Subscribed to biographical material followed in 2014 Pawn Sacrifice - Game of Kings about Bobby Fischer , 2015 Miles Ahead about Miles Davis and 2016 Birth of a Dragon , a fictional story about the young Bruce Lee . In 2017, the Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me appeared , in which Wilkinson and Rivele were responsible for a later rewritten version.

In 2014, Virtuosity appeared on the competition of talented young pianists, which Wilkinson also directed.
