Chiarissimo Falconieri Mellini (born September 25, 1794 in Rome , † August 22, 1859 in Ravenna ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

Chiarissimo Falconieri Mellini was the youngest of two sons of Count Alessandro Falconieri Mellini and his wife Marianna Lante Montefeltro della Rovere . His mother's ancestors were regents of Bomarzo and came from the same family as Pope Julius II. The future cardinal was related to several purple bearers, such as the cardinals Lelio Falconieri (1585–1648), Alessandro Falconieri (1657–1734) and Mario Millini ( 1677-1756); the latter was his great-great-uncle. On the part of the mother, the cardinals Alessandro Lante Montefeltro della Rovere (1762-1818) and Federico Marcello Lante della Rovere (1695-1773) belonged to the relatives.

After attending the Collegio Tolomei in Siena and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Falconieri Mellini enrolled at the University of La Sapienza, also in Rome, where on September 13, 1824 he was awarded the Doctor iuris utriusque in law , both in civil and in civil law Canon Law , PhD .

After his ordination , which took place on September 19, 1818, Falconieri Mellini initially found employment as an auditor at the Roman Rota . At the same time he became the local chaplain of Pope Pius VII. After that, Falconieri Mellini rose quickly in the church hierarchy. After almost eight years as a chaplain and simple priest , he was appointed Archbishop of Ravenna on July 3, 1826 . In early 1859, Falconieri Mellini was elected treasurer of the Holy College of Cardinals . He remained so until his death in August of the same year. He was 64 years old. His tomb is in the Cathedral of Ravenna.
