history

Notre-Dame Church in Clefs

The first Notre-Dame church is known in the 11th century. In 1138 Augustinians founded the Saint-Jean de Mélinais monastery , which was extensively restored in the first half of the 17th century.

As an independent municipality, Clef had the INSEE code 49101. On January 1, 2013, Clefs was incorporated as the main town together with the neighboring town of Vaulandry in the newly created municipality of Clefs-Val-d'Anjou . This dissolved again on January 1, 2016 and became part of Baugé-en-Anjou, which includes the village of Clefs together with the originally 14 other municipalities in the territory of the former canton of Baugé-en-Anjou as communes déléguées .

Economy and Infrastructure

Clefs is called the capital of bees . Most of that has been said about the economy, because a lot revolves around beekeeping. There is the Route of the Honey , beekeeping and processing plants as well as some tourism (hotel).

The Départementsstraße D 938 Baugé - La Flèche is used as a bypass road around Clefs. The train connection to La Flèche has been suspended for many decades.
