Clemens August von Haxthausen (born December 12, 1738 in Oldenburg , † January 29, 1793 in Copenhagen ) was a royal Danish general of the infantry and twice chief of the Oldenburg infantry regiment and knight of the Dannebrog Order .

Life

His parents were the lieutenant general and privy councilor Christian Friedrich von Haxthausen (* 1690; † December 26, 1740) and his wife 'Margrethe Hedwig Juel (* 1702; † February 19, 1752). The Minister Gregers Kristian von Haxthausen was his brother.

On June 2, 1757 he became an ensign of the life guards on foot, on October 29, 1757 he was already a second lieutenant and on March 26, 1760 he became a captain . On October 16, 1763, the grenadier corps and the bodyguard were reorganized on foot and a guard battalion and a Danish body regiment were formed from them. Haxthausen was given the post of captain and company commander in the Danish body regiment. He changed on December 6, 1763 as a captain in the combined guard cavalry and on foot, and in 1766 he became Danish chamberlain . The guard was initially separated again on February 13, 1765, but the separation was lifted on April 11, 1767. Haxthausen became lieutenant colonel in the regiment of Crown Prince Friedrich on February 5, 1768 , premier major and commander of the foot guard on June 21, 1769 and colonel of the infantry on March 7, 1770 .

On December 23, 1771, the guard was disbanded by an instruction from the cabinet under Struensee , but was restored on January 17, 1772 after the cabinet was overthrown. Haxthausen was again commander of the new guard on March 25, 1773 and on August 4, 1773 he was also given the Oldenburg regiment. In the following year, 1774, he was awarded the Danebrogorden (white knight). On July 1, 1774 he gave up the Oldenburg regiment and was promoted to major general on January 2, 1777 . On January 7, 1785, he gave up the guard and received the Oldenburg regiment again, but at the same time became commander of Copenhagen. On February 3, he handed over command of the Zealand Regiment to Lieutenant Colonel Leth, for which he received compensation of 300 thalers. On November 13, 1789 he was promoted to General of the Infantry. He died on January 29, 1793.

He was married several times. His first wife was Charlotte Amalie von Wedel -Jarlsberg on September 20, 1765 (* July 27, 1759 - † November 29, 1771). She was the daughter of Privy Councilor Friedrich Wilhelm von Wedel-Jarlsberg. After the death of his first wife, he married Dorothea Sophie von Schack -Rathlau (* July 25, 1757 - January 11, 1778), the daughter of Minister Otto von Schack-Rathlau, on August 24, 1774 . Shortly before his death, he married Christine Caroline von Holstein -Ledreborg on June 22, 1792 (* February 28, 1772; † December 11, 1852). She was the daughter of Count Christian Friedrich von Holstein-Ledreborg and his second wife Charlotte Elisabeth von Inhausen and Knyphausen.

The widow married the Danish privy councilor Friedrich Christian August von Roepstorff (born May 3, 1768) on June 21, 1794.
