Cottage Grove is a city in the US state of Minnesota . It is located in Washington County in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area and has around 30,600 residents.
geography
Cottage Grove is located approximately 17 kilometers southeast of downtown St. Paul . The Mississippi River runs west and south of the city and serves as the city boundary in the south. The lower Gray Cloud Island in the Mississippi is largely part of the urban area. According to the United States Census Bureau, the area of the city is 98.2 square kilometers, of which 10.2 square kilometers is water.
history
The origins of Cottage Groves go back to settlements founded by settlers of European descent from New England in the 1840s . In May 1858 the Cottage Grove Township was formed. In 1963 it became a village and in 1974 Cottage Grove was given town charter. After Cottage Grove was a rural place for a long time, it developed into a rapidly growing suburb of the Twin Cities from the 1960s.
