The documented trunk series begins with Ostwald Quotzhausen in Biedenkopf , † between 1572 and 1576, whose son appears as Johann von Quotzhausen ( Kotzhausen ), 1568 citizen in Biedenkopf. Dietrich von Cotzhausen , son of Balthasar von Cotzhausen , lived in Biedencap (Biedenkopf) around 1611 . Johann Dietrich von Cotzhausen was rent master of Count Heinrich Wolrad von Waldeck-Pyrmont in 1664 and, after he had fallen in the Turkish War one year later , from his uncle Georg Friedrich von Waldeck-Pyrmont from the Eisenberg line, in 1680 he was appointed his former mayor and rent master Kinzweiler called, in 1677, he is tenth tenant of the cathedral chapter of Cologne to Freialdenhoven , where he court Winhoff possesses, and yet in 1715 until his death in 1720 he Drost the rule Wittem . 1701 took place under his son, Johann Bernhard von Kotzhausen , who was his father's successor as Kinzweiler mayor and rent master, as well as tenant of the Kinzweiler rule , as owner of the Kambach house acquired in 1699, its redesign in its current form. Children of Johann Bernhard, who died before 1731, and Anna Maria geb. von Gangelt were Florence Peter (1745 documented husband of Eva Maria née von Crans - whose son was the captain of the Electorate of the Palatinate (captain) Johann Bernhard Florenz mentioned in 1773 , documented husband of Anna Maria Florentina in 1763 ), Johann Bernhard (junior), Heinrich Wilhelm and Dorothea Lambertina (married to Leonhard de Brewer zu Nyssweiler ) and Anna Maria Sybilla von Cotzhausen (married to Dr. Peucher , lawyers at the Jülich-Bergische Hofkanzlei). The Grand Duchy of Berg domain Directorate sold in 1806 the council of war Heinrich Wilhelm Ludwig von Cotzhausen the domain lands Stapp (Official Dinslaken ) Büssen (Official Götterswyckerhamm- Spellen ) Alsumer Grind (Official Beeck ) Kyffwarden (glory Meiderich ) and spiritual goods, Rhinsward below Wesel , formerly Kartause Xanten , and other warden. In 1808 the Wedau manor near Brachelen and Hilfarth in the Heinsberg district was acquired, which became the family entourage. In 1811 Heinrich Wilhelm Ludwig von Cotzhausen, on Wedau and Kambach, was appointed Baron de l'Empire by Emperor Napoleon I (hereditary for the first-born). The King of Prussia recognized the baron class (under the same condition and linked to the possession of the Wedau Majorate ) in 1828, which is why Heinrich Wilhelm Ludwig von Cotzhausen was also enrolled in the baron class of the Prussian Rhine Province a year later . His widow, Catharina Magdalena Josephine Hubertine b. Freiin von Broich zu Dürwiss , moved to Duisburg with her eight children and gave up Kambach's residence. For financial reasons, she sold the facility to the Rey family from Glesch bei Bergheim in 1842/1845 . Wedau was retained.

Family coat of arms

The family coat of arms originally shows a bareheaded upper half farmer, holding a flail in his right hand, and his left hand caulked (Albert Kotzhusius / von Kotzhausen, Jülich 1622).

From the later 17th century a coat of arms has been preserved, which shows in red a man dressed in long silver with a cap, a silver flail (later also a silver flag swung over his head) in his right hand, his left hand wedged. The man growing on the helmet with the red and silver covers .

Johann Bernhard von Cotzhausen carried a modified shield ( attached to the Kambach house in 1701 ): In red a silver armor turned forward with a silver flag in his right hand. The armor growing on the helmet with the red and silver covers.
