Crystal Lynn Bowersox (born August 4, 1985 in Elliston , Ohio ) is an American singer-songwriter . In 2010, she participated in the ninth season of American Idol , reaching second place.

Life

Crystal Bowersox was born on August 4, 1985 in Elliston, Ohio. She attended high school in Oak Harbor, Ohio and the School for the Arts in Toledo, Ohio . Bowersox is a single mother of one son.

American Idol

She auditioned in Chicago, Illinois. Bowersox was a jury favorite throughout the season and received good reviews. She was never among the last two or three ( English bottom two or three ). On May 25, 2010, Bowersox lost to Lee DeWyze in the final. This made her the first woman in the final since Jordin Sparks (2007).
