Cumulo Nimbus (from neo-Latin cumulonimbus 'storm cloud ') is a medieval and renaissance rock band founded in 2000 from the Upper Bavarian town of Landsberg am Lech . She belongs to the German medieval rock scene. The acoustic version of the band appears under the name Bernsteyn .

music

Cumulo Nimbus play metal concerts with electrically distorted music and pieces that have come from the Renaissance, but also perform unplugged and a cappella at medieval events, such as the Ruethenfest in Landsberg.

In addition to the usual rock instruments, Cumulo Nimbus also uses recorders , lutes , bumblebees and the violin . Their sound differs from that of most other medieval rock groups (such as In Extremo , Nachtgeschrei , Saltatio Mortis or Schelmish ) mainly because their musical roots are less in the Middle Ages ( drum and shawm-heavy , unison melodies), but rather in the Renaissance period (recorders, lutes, polyphony).

Most of the pieces are written and composed by myself, some of the songs borrowed from old masters such as John Dowland .

Cumulo Nimbus was best known in eastern Germany for the piece Wirtshaus , which ran there for weeks at many metal events and events of the black scene in 2004 .

history

Minister of State Thomas Goppel presented the band with the Landsberg Cultural Promotion Prize

The band was founded by Mathis, Pat and Erik towards the end of 2000 in Landsberg am Lech in Upper Bavaria. Shortly afterwards, Carolynn and Jo (Saruman) joined them. They made their debut on April 28, 2001 at the Isotope Festival in their hometown. Immediately after the performance, the Augsburg bassist Sir Robin the Brave ( Haggard , Red to Gray, Saruman) joined. Tanja joined in 2002, but went to study in Salzburg in 2003 and the violinist Lady Doro (meanwhile also Haggard) followed.

In 2002/2003 Cumulo Nimbus made a name for itself on a regional level. In 2004 they performed at the Hexenkessel Open Air 2004 in Augsburg, a. a. next to Haggard, Schandmaul . The first national appearances followed in Magdeburg and Bogen / Oberpfalz, in 2005 in Berlin together with Fiddler's Green and in front of the Goslarer Kaiserpfalz with the famous medieval formation Corvus Corax . In 2005 the group was awarded the City of Landsberg's Culture Prize.

In 2006 two studio productions were recorded independently. In the summer the band and Sir Robin The Brave separated, new on bass since 2007 is Kæptän Køhler, the hero of the seven beers (Fresh).

In 2007, the band's acoustic edition was renamed Bernsteyn, which, consisting of the same members, brought their renaissance music to medieval events under this name, for example at the Ruethenfest Landsberg 2007.

In 2009 they signed a record deal with Black Bards Entertainment and released their third album Totensonntag .

In 2011 Der Prophet left the band and Käpt'n Köhler took over the drums and Mattis the electric bass, while Binia took over his place at the microphone. Support tour with Saltatio Mortis .
