Curd Ochwadt

Curd Ochwadt (born March 27, 1923 in Hanover ; † July 17, 2012 ibid) was a German writer , translator , editor and publisher whose work unites his diverse interests, ranging from philosophy, poetry and visual arts to regional history and enough for sport.

Life

The son of a lawyer grew up in Hanover and attended the Ratsgymnasium there . In 1938 he met the painter Hugo Körtzinger , who lived in Schnega in Wendland . Soldier since 1942, Ochwadt was taken prisoner of war in Italy in April 1945. From 1950 to 1953 he studied philosophy in Freiburg , where he took part in seminars by Martin Heidegger and got to know the philosopher and lecturer Heinrich Ochsner . Since then he has lived again in Hanover, where he founded Charis Verlag , in which numerous of his books were published.

Ochwadt's intellectual interests are linked to four personalities, whose work he devoted himself primarily as editor and translator: Martin Heidegger, Arthur Rimbaud , Count Wilhelm zu Schaumburg-Lippe and René Char : In 1961, Lambert Schneider published his translation of “Letters and Documents “Arthur Rimbauds. After he came across the writings of Count Wilhelm zu Schaumburg-Lippe (1724–1777) in the Fürstlich Schaumburg-Lippische Hausarchiv in Bückeburg in 1966 , he tried to get an edition - encouraged and supported by the Hanoverian historian Georg Schnath , Martin Heidegger and by Kurt Müller (Leibniz Archive Hanover). From 1969 he worked in the Leibniz archive of the Lower Saxony State Library on the writings and letters of Count Wilhelm zu Schaumburg-Lippe , which appeared in three volumes from 1977 to 1983. After Martin Heidegger's death, whom he had visited for the last time in July 1975, he began working on the Heidegger complete edition ; The first volume to be published in 1977 was the Four Seminars , translated and edited by Ochwadt from the French seminar protocols , in 1982 the Freiburg lecture Hölderlin's hymn 'Andenken' , and finally in 2000 on To Hölderlin / Greece Travel . In 1978 Ochwadt met the French poet René Char, whom he often visited in the following years in his home town of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue . After Char's death in 1988, Ochwadt translated one of his plays and published it with an afterword under the title “The Sun of the Water”.

Since 1963 he has been collecting historical texts for a book: "Das Steinhuder Meer ", which was published in 1967. After he started sailing on the Steinhuder Meer in 1935 , he practiced this sport until late years; also as a voluntary sports official and supervisor and as the author of a Finn primer . In 1965 he was elected to the board of the German Sailing Association ; In 1968 he headed the sailing team of the Federal Republic of Germany at the sailing competitions of the Olympic Games in Mexico .

In 1981 Ochwadt and Erwin Tecklenborg published the commemorative book Das Maß des Verborgenen for Heinrich Ochsner . The 1988 publication Ernst Barlach , Hugo Körtzinger and Hermann F. Reemtsma was followed in 1991 by the monograph Hugo Körtzinger, published by Ochwadt : "Pictures, sculptures, writings" about the artist (1892–1967). Werner Kraft's letters to Curd Ochwadt, edited with Ulrich Breden under the title Between Jerusalem and Hanover, concluded his journalistic activities in 2004 . Ochwadt had been in correspondence with Werner Kraft, the Hanover-born librarian and poet, since 1962.

His grave is in the Engesohde city cemetery (Department 34).
