The district of Curgos is located in the province of Sánchez Carrión in the La Libertad region of western Peru . The district was established on December 13, 1943. It has an area of 98.2 km². The 2017 census counted 7,822 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 7548, in 2007 it was 8181. The administrative seat of the district is the 3225 m high town of Curgos with 1979 inhabitants (as of 2017). Curgos is located 12 km east-southeast of the provincial capital Huamachuco .
There are two thermal baths in the district of Curgos, in El Eden in the southeast and at Yanasara in the northeast.
Geographical location
The district of Curgos is located on the eastern flank of the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the center of the province of Sánchez Carrión. The area is drained by the Río Chusgón , a tributary of the Río Marañón , to the north.
The district of Curgos borders in the west and north on the district Huamachuco , in the northeast on the district Chugay and in the southeast and in the south on the district Sarín .
