DB Regio Nordostbayern , based in Hof (Saale), is a division of Deutsche Bahn AG that is responsible for a large part of the regional and local rail traffic in the Upper Franconian administrative region. The company was created on October 1, 2010 through the merger of the DB Regio Oberfranken and DB Regio Ostbayern .

Trains

Due to the fact that only non-electrified routes meet at the Hof operating site, only diesel-powered vehicles can reach the city. After investments by Deutsche Bahn around the turn of the millennium, the image of trains has largely changed within a few years from diesel locomotive- hauled wagon trains to modern multiple units . Today 45 tilting technology trains of the VT 612 series and 7 conventional VT 641 are stationed in Hof . The trains are used as Main-Saale-Express on regional express lines of the Main-Saale network .

Depot

DB Regio Nordostbayern has a 68,000 m², modern workshop with the Hof depot , which specializes in tilting technology vehicles. This is where the class 612 and 641 railcars are serviced, maintained and repaired, as well as the former Nuremberg class 610 vehicles. The workshop was modernized in 2000 and 2001 for around 4 million euros and adapted to today's requirements.

stretch

The traffic area covers a large part of the routes in Upper Franconia. The following is an excerpt from the routes that DB Regio Nordostbayern is equipping with vehicles:

  • RE Hof Hbf / Bayreuth Hbf - Lichtenfels - Bamberg
  • RE Hof Hbf - Marktredwitz - Nürnberg Hbf
  • RE Hof Hbf - Marktredwitz - Weiden (Oberpf) - Regensburg
  • RE Bayreuth Hbf - Pegnitz - Nürnberg Hbf
  • RE Cheb - Marktredwitz - Nürnberg Hbf
  • RE Nürnberg Hbf - Schwandorf - Furth im Wald

The RE services are operated with VT 612 , on the Hof / Bayreuth - Marktredwitz - Nuremberg route, up to the timetable change in December 2007, VT 610 from the Nuremberg depot alternated .

From December 2015, a two-hour extension of the new Twindexx Vario trains coming from Frankfurt (new double-decker trains ) will be extended from Würzburg to Bamberg . Until then, from December 2013 this area will be replaced with regional trains of the 425 series on the RE connection in the Munich area . These are also used on the RB connection of the Mainfrankenbahn to optimize the Coradia Continental trains. Since December 2013, the Bamberg-Bayreuth / Hof connection has been equipped with class 641 diesel multiple units from Erfurt in addition to the RegioSwinger . The RegioSwingers are only used on the Hof / Bayreuth – Lichtenfels route and the connections to Bamberg are operated with the 641 series.

On the railway lines Regensburg-Weiden , Weiden-Oberkotzau whose continuation towards Hof and Plauen and section Marktredwitz Cheb- runs for several years, the private Oberpfalzbahn , operated by the state railway . The Regional Express Munich- Regensburg-Hof from December 2007 was also awarded to the Länderbahn in 2005, which operates it as alex .

As part of the tender for "Diesel Network Upper Franconia", the Bavarian Railway Company awarded the RB services for all non-electrified lines in Upper Franconia to BeNEX GmbH , a subsidiary of Hamburger Hochbahn AG , at the start of operations on June 12, 2011 . Agilis trains are now traveling on the routes that have been won there. The RB line Hof – Marktredwitz – Regensburg, which was operated by the Vogtlandbahn until then , will be split in Marktredwitz when the timetable changes in December 2012. The northern section Hof – Marktredwitz will then be combined with the RB Marktredwitz – Kirchenlaibach – Bayreuth to form a new, continuous RB line Hof – Marktredwitz – Bayreuth. The Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft is currently looking for a new operator for the southern section of Marktredwitz – Regensburg as part of an ongoing tender. This award went to the Länderbahn in December 2010, which already operates the Waldbahn and the alex.

The electrified subnetwork operated by DB Regio Nordostbayern on the Bamberg - Lichtenfels - Sonneberg / Saalfeld (Saale) axis was also put out to tender. Here, too, the order went to a competitor, Regional- und Stadtverkehr Bayern GmbH , a subsidiary of DB Regio . Operations began in stages in December 2011 and 2013.

DB Regio Nordostbayern has been operating RE trains exclusively in Upper Franconia since December 2013, with the RE lines also being put out to tender in the next few years.

The RE connection Würzbung – Bamberg – Lichtenfels – Bayreuth / Hof was split in two. This is because DB Regio Franken won the tender in the Main-Spessart area at the beginning of 2013. The DB Regio Nordostbayern thus loses the Bamberg – Würzburg railway line . Since December 2013, it has consisted of the (Frankfurt–) Würzburg – Bamberg line, which is transferred to the DB Regio Bayern VB Franken and, on the other hand, the Bamberg – Lichtenfels – Bayreuth / Hof line was transferred to the DB Regio Bayern VB Nordostbayern.
