GDR wrestling championships 1981
The GDR wrestling championships were held for the 33rd time in 1981 and took place in the Greco-Roman style in the Suhl town hall of friendship and in freestyle in Luckenwalde . The title fights were held for the first time according to the new regulations ( fight time 2 × 3 minutes and a draw in two groups, with an associated real final ).
With Roberto Hünisch , Uwe Neupert and Roland Gehrke , three athletes received championship honors in both disciplines.
In Greco-Roman style, Günter Reichelt , Jörn Levermann and Siegfried Lang managed to defend their titles from the previous year. This time, Peter Thätner was awarded a title one weight class higher.
Hartmut Reich , Peter Syring and Uwe Neupert defended their title from last year in freestyle . This time, Roland Gehrke took title honors one weight class lower.
