Dale Soules

Dale Soules (born October 2, 1946 in New Jersey ) is an American actress . She gained fame through the role of Frieda Berlin in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black , which she embodied from 2014 to 2019.

Life

Dale Soules grew up with her grandmother near Greenwood Lake in West Milford after her father was temporarily imprisoned after his war experience as an alcoholic. Soules attended West Milford High School, where she gained her first acting experience at local theater performances. They also sang in the church choir and took acting classes at HB Studio of Herbert Berghof .

In the mid-1960s, Soules moved to New York to begin an acting career. After various positions behind the scenes, she gained notoriety as a performer in 1968 for the role of Jeanie in the Broadway world premiere of Hair . In the following years she appeared in other Broadway performances, including Arthur Miller's drama The Witch Hunt .

In addition to her stage work, Soules has also appeared as an actress in television series as well as short and independent films since 1971 . In 2009 she played minor supporting roles in The Messenger and New York Mom . Her best-known role was played by Soules from 2014 to 2019 as Frieda Berlin in the Netflix-produced series Orange is the New Black . In 2014, 2015 and 2016 she received the Screen Actors Guild Award for the best ensemble in a comedy series together with the rest of the cast of the series .

The German dubbing voice of Dale Soules has been Isabella Grothe since Orange is the New Black .
