The fifth season of Dancing Stars began on March 6, 2009 and was broadcast live on ORF Eins , for the first time also on HD TV . It ended with the final on May 15, 2009, in which Claudia Reiterer and partner Andy Kainz were able to prevail. Mirjam Weichselbraun and Alfons Haider were responsible for the moderation .

For the fifth season the rules have been changed slightly. The first time twelve couples compete against each other. In the first two rounds, only women or men competed against each other with solo dances, while the other group performed a non-graded group dance.

The jury consisted of Klaus Eberhartinger , Nicole Burns-Hansen , Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer and Hannes Nedbal .

To accompany the fifth season, a dance course entitled Dancing Stars - Austria tanzt was broadcast on ORF 2 .
