Anthony Dane Watts (born April 20, 1986 in Kansas City , Missouri ) is an American basketball player who has played as a professional since 2008 and was under contract with several clubs in the German basketball league . He played for the Gotha Rockets until the end of the 2017/18 season .

Career

At a height of 2.03 m, he usually takes the position of the power forward . He attended Warrensburg High School. From 2004 to 2008 he played during his studies at Creighton University in Omaha ( Nebraska ) for the Bluejays in NCAA Division I, with which he reached the national finals in 2005 and 2007 , in which, however, you were eliminated in the first round.

He then moved to EnBW Ludwigsburg in the basketball league in 2008. From 2009 Watts was active for two seasons with league rivals and local rivals Walter Tigers Tübingen. In his three seasons, however, his teams did not manage to qualify for the play-offs for the German championship . After the end of the BBL season 2010/11, he moved to the French LNB Pro A for the Provencal club Hyères-Toulon Var Basket, which had qualified for the play-offs for the French championship. Already in the quarter-finals, the southern French had to admit defeat to the eventual champions SLUC Nancy Basket and after three completed games Watts left the club again.

For the 2011/2012 season Watts moved back to the BBL and received a contract with ratiopharm ulm. With this team he was runner- up in the basketball Bundesliga 2011/12 . In the following season, the Ulm team started again on the international stage for the first time after their recovery in 2007 and immediately reached the knockout games of the quarter-finals in the second most important European club competition Eurocup 2012/13 . But Watts had to undergo a necessary intervertebral disc operation due to acute deficits in mid-February 2013 , which meant he was out the rest of the season. After all, it took Watts just under a year before he signed a professional contract again.

At the beginning of January 2014 Watts finally returned to active sport and signed a contract until the end of the season with the Ulm league competitor Fraport Skyliners from Frankfurt am Main to replace his compatriot Jacob Burtschi, who was also injured in his back .

The 2014/2015 season began Watts in the highest Spanish league with the Eurocup participant Cajasol Sevilla , in January 2015 there was a separation. He then moved to Limburg United in Belgium. After this station Watts went to the Austrian Bundesliga to the UBC Güssing Knights .

In November 2016 he returned to Germany after being signed by the Gotha Rockets . With the Thuringians he reached the Bundesliga promotion as ProA runner-up in spring 2017. He contributed to this success with averages of 13.5 points and 7 rebounds (in 30 missions). In the 2017/18 season Watts missed relegation in the Bundesliga with the Thuringians.
