Darcy Lima
Darcy Gustavo Machado Vieira Lima (with the World Chess Federation FIDE Darcy Lima ; born May 22, 1962 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian chess player , official, editor and teacher.
He has been president of the Brazilian Chess Federation since 2013, of which he was president from 1999 to 2004. Darcy Lima is a member of the board of directors of the Conference of Chess for Americas (CCA). During his presidency he initiated, among other things, a school chess program to make the sport of chess accessible to socially disadvantaged groups. He is the editor of the chess magazine Xeque Mate .

In 1980 he won the Brazilian Junior Championship in Fortaleza . He was Brazilian individual champion three times: 1992 in Curitiba , 2002 in Brasília and 2003 in Miguel Pereira , state of Rio de Janeiro .
In June 2000 he won the Zone Tournament of São Paulo . In the subsequent World Cup elimination in November 2000 in New Delhi , however, he was eliminated in the first round against Alexander Grishchuk . In September 2003 he won again a zone tournament in São Paulo, at the subsequent FIDE World Chess Championship 2004 in Tripoli in June of that year he was eliminated in the first round against Vadim Svyagintsev . At the Chess World Cup 2005 in Khanty-Mansiysk in November of this year he was eliminated in the first round against Konstantin Sakajew , at the Chess World Cup 2007 in November in Khanty-Mansiysk he failed again, as in 2000, in the first round Alexander Grishchuk.
With the Brazilian national team, he took place between 1988 and 2008 in eleven Chess Olympiads in part with a total score of 61 points from 117 games (+41 = 40 -36) and at the Chess World Team Championship 2010. In the Chess Olympiad in 2010 he accompanied the Brazilian team not as Player, rather than captain. He took part in Pan-American team championships four times (1991, 1995, 2000 and 2003) with a total of 13 points from 17 games (+10 = 6 −1). He reached second place with the Brazilian team in 1991, 2000 and 2003 and achieved the best individual result on the third board in 1991. He played club chess in Brazil and Portugal, in the latter for the ACR Vale de Cambra .
He received the title of International Master in 1989 and the title of Grand Master in 2000. Since 2010 he has been a FIDE trainer, since 2013 FIDE International Organizer . His Elo rating is 2516 (as of April 2020). Darcy Lima's highest rating to date was 2550 in April 2001 and from September to November 2019.
