Dario David Cioni (born December 2, 1974 in Reading , England ) is a former Italian cyclist .

career

Dario Cioni started his career as a mountain biker and became Italian champion several times. Because he did not for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney was nominated, he decided to focus on road cycling to concentrate. He first became a professional at Mapei ; However, his breakthrough came with the Fassa Bortolo team , where he finished third in the Tour de Suisse and fourth ( 2005 ) in the Giro d'Italia . In 2004 he became Italian champion in the individual time trial .

From 2005 Cioni drove for the Liquigas-Bianchi team and took part in the Tour de France for the first time. For the 2007 season he signed a contract with Predictor Lotto . Right at the beginning of the new season, he decided on a stage of the Tour of Andalusia for his new employer . In 2009 he won the team time trial of the Settimana Internazionale together with the riders from the ISD Neri team .

Together with Cédric Vasseur , Cionai was the rider's representative in the Council of the International Cycling Federation UCI .

At the end of the 2011 season, Cioni, who last rode for Team Sky , ended his career as a professional cyclist, but stayed with the team as a coach. (Stand 2013)
