Darjuš Lavrinovič ( Polish: Dariusz Ławrynowicz , born November 11, 1979 in Vilnius , Lithuanian SSR ) is a Lithuanian basketball player of Polish descent. His preferred position is that of the center .

career

Darjuš Lavrinovič began his career in the youth of KK Alytus and made his debut in the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL). In 2003 Lavrinovič moved to the traditional club Žalgiris Kaunas , where he won two championship titles (2003/04, 2004/05) and once the Baltic Basketball League (2004/05). In 2006 he moved to Russia to UNICS Kazan , where he played two seasons before signing with Dynamo Moscow . In the summer of 2009 he moved to the Spanish club Real Madrid , following his coach Ettore Messina , who had already coached him in the Russian capital. After only a year he left the Spanish club and went to Fenerbahçe Ülkerspor , in the Türkiye Basketbol Ligi . With this club he became national champion as well as a year later with the dominating Russian club CSKA Moscow, with which he also won the Eastern European VTB United League . However , they lost the final in the highest European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2011/12 . After another season at Žalgiris, with whom he also won the national championship, he played in the 2013/14 season for the Euroleague newcomer Budiwelnyk from Kiev in Ukraine .

With the national team , he contested the European basketball championships in 2005 , 2007 , where he won bronze, and 2013 (silver), the basketball world championships in 2006 and 2014 , and the 2008 Olympic Games .

His twin brother Kšyštof Lavrinovič is also a professional basketball player and Lithuanian national player. In late 1998, both brothers and one cousin were charged and convicted of joint rape. A short time later, the plaintiff withdrew her allegations and married Darjuš Lavrinovič. The courts did not believe the discharge, however, and in November 2000 he was sentenced to five years in prison. He was released after about three and was able to continue his career with Alita Alytus. The marriage had been divorced after a year.

Lavrinovič and his brother belong to the Polish minority in Lithuania .
