Celtic Glasgow and Ipswich Town

Daryl Murphy as a player for Celtic Glasgow

On July 16, 2010, the Scottish first division club Celtic Glasgow announced the commitment of the 27-year-old attacker. In the Scottish Premier League 2010/11 Murphy (18 league games / 3 goals) with Celtic was runner-up behind city rivals Glasgow Rangers , but the team secured the title in the Scottish FA Cup 2010/11 . In August 2011, Celtic loaned him to the English second division club Ipswich Town, for whom Murphy had already played in 2010. After a convincing loan deal and a failed commitment on a fixed contract basis for financial reasons, Ipswich loaned him again in the summer of 2012 for a full season from Celtic. After another increase in performance and seven league goals, Ipswich Town signed the now free Murphy on June 7, 2013 and equipped him with a two-year contract. In the Football League Championship 2013/14 , the club narrowly missed the play-offs as table eight and Daryl Murphy was able to increase his goal haul to 13 goals. In 2014/15 , the now 32-year-old attacker had by far the most successful season of his career. 27 league goals earned him the title of top scorer in the second division. Ipswich moved into the play-offs as sixth in the table, but failed prematurely in the semifinals against East of England rivals Norwich City .

Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest

On August 28, 2016, Murphy moved to Newcastle United and signed a two-year deal with the relegated Premier League . With Newcastle he won the EFL Championship 2016/17 and achieved the direct return to the first division.

In July 2017, the second division Nottingham Forest announced the commitment of the 34-year-old and provided him with a contract valid until 2020. In September 2019 he moved to the Bolton Wanderers .

National team

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in Ireland's squad. After the unsatisfactory start, he was accepted into the starting line-up in the decisive group game against Italy. After the 1-0 win, the team reached the round of 16, where he played again from the start. This time Ireland lost to hosts France and was eliminated.
