Jacob Alexander Mellis (born March 28, 1991 in Nottingham ) is an English football player who has been under contract with Bolton Wanderers since January 2020 .

Career

Jacob Mellis was born in Nottingham in 1991 and started his career with Sheffield United in 2002 . In June 2007, he moved to the Chelsea FC youth academy for £ 1 million . In 2008 he reached the final of the FA Youth Cup with the academy team, but lost there against the Manchester City team 2-4. In the 2008/09 season he came to the reserve team and was used thirteen times in his first season, scoring three goals.

On August 14, 2009 he was loaned to Southampton FC until January 2010 and made his professional debut the following day when he came on as a substitute in the 3-1 loss to Huddersfield Town . After twelve league games, he returned to London in January. In the 2010/11 season he was first in the extended professional squad and played on November 23, 2010 in the UEFA Champions League against MŠK Žilina his first game at European level when he came on in the 90th minute for Josh McEachran .

In January 2011 Mells was loaned to Barnsley FC until the end of the season. On February 5, 2011, he scored the only goal in a 4-1 loss to Leicester City and thus his first goal for the "Tykes". By the end of the season, he played fifteen league games and had two hits.

On April 3, 2012, he was loaned to the reserve team of the Queens Park Rangers and scored a goal against the reserves of West Ham United .

For the 2012/13 season Mellis moved to Barnsley FC , where he signed a two-year contract.

After Mellis was relegated to the third division with Barnsley in the 2013/14 season , he was signed by the second division FC Blackpool in the summer of 2014 .

In January 2020 he moved to the Bolton Wanderers .

National team

Mellis played for England's U-16, U-17 and U-19 national teams. So far he has played 21 international matches for English national teams, scoring four goals.
