The Secret of the Dead Forest is a three-part crime film that was shot in Hamburg and the surrounding area on behalf of NDR and ARD Degeto for Das Erste . The Göhrde murders were the model . For three decades the disappearance of a woman, the search for her and the effects on her family have been discussed. Matthias Brandt , Karoline Schuch , August Wittgenstein , Silke Bodenbender and Nicholas Ofczarek play the main roles in the multi-part series, while the production companies ConradFilm and Bavaria Fiction are realizing the family and crime drama.

action

Freely based on true events, the films tell the story of a criminal case that remained unsolved for almost thirty years, of a brother's increasingly desperate search for his sister and the suffering of relatives.

In the summer of 1989 Barbara Neder, the sister of the high-ranking Hamburg police officer Thomas Bethge, disappears without a trace from her house near the city of Weesenburg in Lower Saxony. Shortly before, two couples were cruelly murdered in a large wooded area nearby. The artist Hans Lingner quickly comes under suspicion: he lives on the edge of the forest and is a gun fanatic. The investigators do not see a connection between the murder cases in the "forest of the dead" and the disappearance of Barbara Neder.

Instead, the Lower Saxony police soon suspect the husband Robert Neder, who was about to divorce his wife. Daughter Theresa also suffers greatly from the disappearance of her mother and the suspicions against her father. That's why she soon thinks her own father is her mother's murderer.

Meanwhile, the missing person's brother - LKA boss Thomas Bethge - is facing the most difficult task of his life: He wants to find his sister, but as a Hamburg police officer is not allowed to investigate in Lower Saxony. He receives support from his colleagues Anne Bach and Frank Behringer.

Even after his retirement, Thomas Bethge continues to research intensively with this team and thus gets on the trail of a suspected serial killer.
